The entrance to Pier 60 at Clearwater Beach

Clearwater Beach was named as #1 Best Beach in The South by USA Today.  It is world renowned for white sandy beaches, the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico and for beautiful sunsets.   There is a lot to Clearwater Beach besides the beautiful beaches.  The Aquarium was the inspiration and setting for the movie Dolphin Tale.  The main street is very walking friendly, giving easy access to the shops and restaurants and the marina is host to many different charters including dolphin watching, sightseeing and fishing.

The Beautiful Beaches are one of the biggest draws to Clearwater Beach.  The soft white powdery sand is dotted with the ubiquitous blue loungers and sunshades, and meets the warm turquoise  waters of the Gulf of Mexico.  The frequent lifeguard towers are staffed by lifeguards to keep swimmers safe and minimize water related incidents.   The Gulf of Mexico water temperature is over 70 degrees from April to November, and rises well into the 80s in the peak summer months.   If you are considering a beach vacation, this just has to be at or near the top of your list

Sunsets are a big attraction.   Many people will be drawn to the beach just to watch the sunset over the Gulf of Mexico.  It truly is a spectacular sight.  Frenchy’s Rockaway Bar and Grill is right there on the beach if you want to take in the sights with a cold beverage in hand.  If you are looking for something a little more active, the beach volleyball courts are right there as well.

There are many opportunities to eat and drink in Clearwater Beach, obviously high quality seafood features strongly.   From casual dining on the beach at Frenchy’s to fine dining at Caretta on the Gulf and Blinkers Beachside Steakhouse and Lounge, Clearwater Beach has it all.   If you just want to wander and find somewhere then a stroll down main street to the marina will give you a wide range of options for dining.

Pier 60 is a popular spot for fishing and sightseeing.   The vendors, street performers and live music make this a hub of activity and provide seemingly endless opportunity for visitors to buy snacks, souvenirs and take in the shows.  Pier 60 reaches out some 1000 feet into the Gulf of Mexico, so it’s another fantastic vantage point for the viewing the spectacular sunsets.

Clearwater Beach real estate, not surprisingly, is made up of more condos and townhomes than single family homes.  Some of the condos will allow you to rent out your unit short term if that interests you – do your research first as not all allow it, and those that do have strict policies which they do enforce.  Right now the lowest priced condo is a 1 bed 1 bath unit with 680 square feet for $319,000, about 15 minutes walk to the beach.  At the other end of the scale is a 3,904 square foot penthouse in the Grand on Sand Key, listed for $3.8MM.  The penthouse has breathtaking views of the Gulf of Mexico, Clearwater Beach and the Intracoastal and every luxury amenity imaginable.   The most expensive home sold in Clearwater Beach in the last 12 months is 277 Bayside Drive, a 5000 square foot single family on the Intracoastal which sold for $5MM.
